When learning daf 8a of Gittin I noticed that there is Brita that speaks about islands off the coast of Israel. Regarding the status of these islands the brita mentions, according to the Tanna Kamma, that we imagine a line drawn from the Mountains of Ammanon to the brook of Egypt, all islands within the line are part of Israel and those outside the line are Chutz Le Aretz.
My question is : are there indeed islands of the coast of Israel. I took a look when flying out of Israel to see if there was anything and did not see anything. (Of course this is not full proof). But on searching around on the internet for geological maps of the area, I did not see anything either. Does any one have insights on this? Thanks
