By Rabbi Yoseph Kahanov Jax, Florida There was once a Melamed (Cheder teacher) whom a well-to-do industrialist engaged to serve as the village resident tutor for a period of time (Zman). It so happened that during this same period the prosperous businessman built himself a magnificent mansion. During the housewarming festivities all the household members were, as can be expected, in highly celebratory and cheerful spirits. A dream is the first step of any new venture. We see a vision for our lives, our families, our community and the world we live in. We dream about how the world can be improved, and of the contribution that we can make. I personally dream of a life of Torah and a home of peace. For my children I dream of neshamos coming together as one in marriage, and fulfilling a great purpose that each would never be able to be accomplishing on their own as individuals. “If someone dreams a dream and they do… Continue

Tefillah: Birum Olam: Prayer stands at the Pinnacle of the World Volume I Issue 9 In this series we will be exploring the meaning of prayer, and more specifically, of how to pray. In this issue we will examine the humility one should exhibit while praying. Shabbos: Ta’am HaChaim Haazinu-Sukkos 5769 Shabbos in the Parashah This week is Parashas Haazinu and will be followed next week by Sukkos. What is interesting about the association between Haazinu and Sukkos is that Haazinu is basically the end of the Torah, where Moshe informs the Jewish people of what will occur when they do not follow the Torah. In a sense Haazinu is the depiction of the End of Days and the Ultimate Redemption. Sukkos is referred to in the Torah as the Chag Haasif, and the… Continue

Given all the mathematical posts, I'd like to renew my interest in trying to figure out if there is a way to condense the logic behind which hoshana gets recited on which day of Succos based upon the 4 possible start days. I am referencing 2 fantastic Artscroll Ashkenaz books (one siddur, one machzor) with English. On page 726-727 of The Complete Artscroll Siddur is 4 charts. On page 732-737 of the Artscroll Succos Machzor are a sequence of paragraphs that include instructions that do not match… Continue

There are no glossaries for the foreign words in the Tosephot and their halachic books (HaRokeah, Hilchot Gedolot, Orchot Chaim, Tosephot Shelanu). I would appreciate any entomologies which these w...
