Here are this week's questions and answers from the book - "Guidelines to Separating Challah and Candle Lighting." by Rabbi Y. Jaeger & R’ E. Barclay: See below for details.
59. ? Must the decisive quantity of dough be made at one time
No. If two or more small doughs were made separately, they can be combined to make the decisive quantity. Indeed, it is praiseworthy to do so, in order to perform the mitzvah of separating challah. Therefore, if one makes dough in a mixer that does not hold 1.2 kilo of flour, the doughs must be combined to perform the mitzvah.
60.
Does this refer to separating with a b’racha or without?
It refers to both:
· Two or more doughs less than the minimum quantity can be combined to create a mitzvah of separating without a b’racha.
· Two or more doughs less than the larger quantity can be combined to create a mitzvah of separating with a b’racha.
We have special permission to present each week, questions from the book - "Guidelines to Separating Challah and Candle Lighting." by Rabbis Y. Jaeger & E. Barclay. (Targum) I have found this book to be clear and informative and am grateful that the authors are allowing us to use it as part of our email. As you will see from the questions and answers presented in the emails, this is a worthwhile book to have on your shelf. As a token of appreciation to the authors, you might want to purchase this book for friends, newlyweds, yourself etc. You can email questions to: guidelines@targum.com. The laws are presented according to the Ashkenazic custom.
PLEASE Email me with new names and when to keep davening. Thank you so much!!
