The spirit of Elul fills the Jewish consciousness. Twice daily Psalm 27 is recited expressing our faith and yearning for an intimate relationship with G-D. Each morning the shrill sounds of the Shofar pierce the air alerting the listener to wake up, shake off complacency and recognize what aspects of one’s life require improvement and take the steps necessary to change. Rosh HaShanah the anniversary of Adam’s creation when all humanity is judged (Rosh HaShanah 16 a). The days leading to Rosh…

Rabbi Yitzchak Ibn Abuchav ZT’L ZY’A in Menorath HaMeor describes Elul as the…

There are two depictions of Eretz Yisrael in the Sidra. The First is 8:7-9
For the L-rd your G-D brings you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and hills; . A land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of olive oil, and honey; A land where you shall eat bread without scarceness, you shall not lack any thing in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you may dig…

This past week began with Tisha B’Av the day that concentrates the totality of the Jewish experience as persecuted minority in exile and concludes with the euphoria associated with the Twelfth Siyum HaShas, Completion of the Babylonian Talmud by the Daf Yomi ,…
