BAD IDEAS

Human holiness is defined by the degree one restrains oneself from the prohibited intimacies listed in Chapter 18 (see Rashi TZ’L ZY’A 19:1) 18:27-29 conveys two important lessons, first the prohibited liaisons are all called Toaiva, abomination and the second lesson is that an incapability between the Land of Israel and its residents is created as a consequence of indulging in forbidden relationships.

IMPURITY IS ONLY SKIN DEEP

The discussion in Tazria Metzora about the malady called Tzoras is very technical at first blush. However, almost hidden there is a profound lesson.



13:45 commands upon the person afflicted with Tzoras to go about unkempt and disheveled and call out “:impure, impure” .The Talmud in Moed Katan 5a and Sotah 32b sees a double meaning first as echoed by Rashi ZT’L ZY’A and the Targumim that the afflicted person is merely warning others to stay away, so that Metzorah does not transmit… Continue

BEING FREE A THOUGHT FOR THE LAST DAYS OF PASSOVER AND ABOUT AVOTH

There is an almost universal custom to eat a last meal during the waning hours of Passover. Some follow the explanation of the Vilna Gaon ZT’L ZY’A that this last meal to a last opportunity to eat Mazto in fulfillment of a Torah commandment. Chassidim some call this meal the Baal Shem Tov’s meal others principally Chabad call the concluding passover meal Mashiach’s Seuda.

A MIRACULOUS MOMENT

This Shabbat the 10th of Nissan marks the First anniversary of my Rosh HaYeshiva Rabbi Henoch Liebowitz ZT’L ZY’A’s passing. The Rosh HaYeshiva lead the Yeshiva his father founded, Yeshivas Rabbinu Yisrael Meir HaCohen Baal Chofetz Chaim for over 68 years from after his father Reb Dovid’s passing 15 Kislev 5701 (December 7, 1941) till his own Petira in 5768, 2008.
