REAL SHALOM

The sacrificial service discussed in VaYikra is the second of the three pillars upon which the world rests along with Torah and acts of kindness (Avot 1:2). The connection between the Sidra and the Haggadah is fascinating in its implications for understanding the dynamics of Jews between themselves and as a community.

THROWING IN THE TOWEL IS NOT AN OPITION

The Talmudic Tractate Megilah begins with a description of alternate dates for Megilah reading. Jews living in outlying rural areas would come to a central town on Mondays and Thursdays as these were Market days and when the Rabbinic Courts would be session. If Purim occurred on a Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday, would necessitate a third trip to town. THE CLOTHES FIT THE MAN

Just as a way to start off there is an interesting custom connected with Shabbat Zachor. About seven years ago My wife and I were in London for Parshat Zachor and our hosts Satmar Chassidim in Stanford Hill ate Amalek How? with Four different types of Kugel in Yiddish Apple (begins with an Ayin) Merrin (carrot) Luchon(noodle) and Kartufel (potato)

A dramatic and if I might add tasty way of consuming our enemies.
