THE LONGEST SHORT DISTANCE

The spies’ report upon their return from reconnoitering the Land of Israel described a fantastic land that cannot be conquered (see Bamidbar 13:31-33). The spies concluding barb is most interesting “And there we saw the Nefilim, the sons of Anak, who come from the Nefilim; and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so were we in their sight.” (BaMidbar 13:13)

Rashi ZT’L ZY’A poses the obvious question how did the spies know how the those living in the Land of Israel perceived…

LEADERSHIP LESSONS

Among the sacrifices described in Parshat VaYikrah is the Sin Offering brought by a Sovereign (VaYikra 4:22). Rashi ZT’L ZY’A cites the Talmud Horiyoth 10b that declares happy is the generation whose leaders acknowledge their inadvertent sins. The further implication is if mistakes are acknowledged all more so are actual sinful acts. The interpretation is based on scripture using the word Asher, when which alludes to the word Asheri, rejoice.

IT IS ALL ABOUT FAITH, DO NOT LEAVE OR GO HOME WITHOUT IT!

First Rashi points out that despite wandering in the desert was G-D’s punishment there were 14 pre-sin of the spies journeys leavening. just 28 stations which averages only 0.737 trips per year. So that even though the Bene Yisrael were serving out a sentence Given by G-D Himself out in response to the people initially accepting the spies’ report regarding the land of Israel and the years of wandering were not too taxing. PEELING BACK THE COVERS

The sidra reads so dramatically that it is hard to remember that one is reading the word of G-D and not an adventure novel. The conflict between Moshe Rabbainu A’H and Pharaoh is so pointed it would not be hard to imagine the tension in royal chambers. Even more intriguing is what went on between the royal advisers, sorcerers and his majesty.
