SAVING JEWISH LAND IN THE GALILEE - AN INTERVIEW WITH JOEL BUSNER

PUSHING BACK AGAINST ARAB LAND GRABS
An interview with Joel Busner of the "Buy a Piece of Israel" Project
BY: FERN SIDMAN
Arab demographics in Israel has been a hot button topic for the last 25 years, as the burgeoning Arab birth rate has resulted in a significant Arab majority in the Galilee region and a formidable Beduin presence in the Negev. As such, Israel finds itself in the midst of a national crisis of hitherto unknown proportions as Jewish farmers…

RETURN TO THE GARDEN BUYING ISRAEL

Avraham Our Father A’H sought a place to bury his deceased spouse the Matriarch Sara Our Mother A’H. Avraham purchased the Cave and Field of the Machpelah in Hevron. (See generally Bereshith 23). The transaction was conducted in universally negotiable currency and was acknowledged by the then indigenous population, the Hittim.

Even though acknowledged by the Hittim the Torah seems confused as to what exactly Avraham bought. 23: 9 describes the property as the Cave of Machpelah,… Continue

IGNORING THAT LITTLE GNAWING VOICE

Both Avraham and Yitzchak the Midrash (Rabbah 56:4) relates were confronted by Sma’el. The angel offered arguments to each challenging the logic of G-D commanding Avraham our Father A’H to bring his son upon a sacrificial altar (Bereshith 22:2).

The arguments were not spurious Avraham was challenged with “How can you slaughter the son [G-D] gave at the age of 100?” Avraham answered “Even so!” A further argument was made that the day after Avraham performed the ritual he would be… Continue

In this week's parsha Lot hosts 2 strangers in his house (19;3).

The torah (19;4) then relates that all the people of the city began complaining

(see Rashi, 19;4).

Lot then responded (19;8): "See now, I have two daughters who have never known a

man. I shall bring them out to you and you may do to them what is good in your

eyes; but to these men do nothing inasmuch as they have come under the shelter

of my roof."

Rashi (19;8)… Continue

“And Abraham said: “Because I thought, surely the fear of G-d is not in this place, and they will slay me for my wife’s sake” (Bereishis, 20;11).

The question is: How can Abraham blame the people of Gerar for not fearing Hashem? It’s not one of the 7 laws of Noah!?! Why were they punished?!?

Rabbi Yochanan Zweig explains that there’s a connection between chesed (kindness) and fearing Hashem. In the beginning of the Parsha, Hashem…

“So Abraham hastened to the tent to Sarah and said, “Hurry! Three Se’ahs of unsifted flour, sifted flour! Kneed and make cakes!” (Bereishis, 18;6).
The Gemara (Bava Metzia, 87a) asks a seemingly insignificant question on this pasuk: Why did Abraham first say unsifted flour then sifted flour? Rabbi Yitzchak…

READY FOR ANYTHING

G-D instructs Avram to journey to travel to “ . . . the land that I shall show you.” (Bereshith 12:1). Avram, his family and followers arrive in Canaan whereupon G-D promises this land will be given to Avram’s descendants (12:7). Although there is an existing indigenous population in the land G-D foretold their presence in the land was temporary and this is where Avram belonged.

It would seem logical that the A-lmighty would give the place, the foundation stone where creation… Continue

The torah (14;14) refers to Avraham's disciples in which joined him at war to rescue Lot as "chanichav."

Rashi (14;14) states that the word "chinuch" (commonly translated as "education") stems from the word "chanichav" and means "the beginning of the entry of a person or an implement into a craft in which he/it is destined to stay."

Rabbi Yochanan Zweig explains from here that real chinuch isn't about teaching children and telling them what they should do.… Continue

In this week's parsha Hashem commands Avraham to leave his homeland and go to a place that he would be shown (12;1). According to most commentators, this was the first of 10 tests for Avraham Avinu in which he showed complete faith in Hashem (see: Pirkei Avos, 5;3).

Firstly, the torah (12;2-3) relates that Avraham was promised fame, wealth and children were he to leave. Therefore, how was it considered a "test" for Avraham to leave?

Secondly,…

EVEN A LITTLE MEANS ALOT

“ . . .Noach was a complete Zaddik in his generation” (Bereshith 6:9) Rahsi ZT’L ZY’A comments on why G-D declared Noach was a Zaddik, a righteous person in his generations? Was this a statement of praise that Noach was righteous in spite of his generation? Or was scripture conveying the message that Noach was a righteous person but only relative to his generation however in comparison to…
