REBUKE MEANS 'ILOVE YOU AND I CARE THAT MUCH!!!!!"

How one experiences an event depends on perspective. The punishments detailed in the Tochacha, Rebuke (Devarim 28:15-69) depicts a series of disastrous consequences if nation behaves faithlessly. The Ohr HaChaim ZT’L ZY’A (28:15) understands faithfulness has three elements, a commitment to Torah Study, observance of those mitzvoth requiring one to refrain from acting and those mitzvoth requiring…

The Rambam (Hilchos Deos. 5;11) states that one should first learn how to make a living and then buy a house before getting married. In this week's parsha, however, the Rambam explains that the torah (28;30) says them in opposite order (wife, house, living) in order to curse us.

However, why is it considered a curse to do those 3 things in the reverse order?

Additionally, the torah (20;5) states that if one is busy with one of…

In this week's parsha we have the laws of divorce (chapter 24).

The torah (24;1) states:"If a man marries a woman and lives with her, and it will be that she will not find favor in his eyes, for he found in her a matter of immorality, and he wrote her a bill of divorce and presented it into her hand, and sent her from his house."

The Gemara (Gittin, 90a) learns from this pasuk that one should divorce their wife if they are given… Continue

FAITH FOCUS

Rav Aaron Lieb Shteinman Shlita (Sefer Yimaleh Pi Thilatecha pg. 126) writing about Ellul explores the importance of the Sages placed on having the right frame of mind. Among the examples the rabbi cites the Talmud relates (Ta’anit 21a) the Sages selected Nachum Ish Gamzu to transport of treasure chest to Caesar. Nachum Ish Gamzu was chosen for what seems an ordinary mission because he was schooled in…

In this week's parsha we have the laws regarding a wayward/rebellious son (21;21).

The torah (21;21) states that the wayward/rebellious son gets stoned. Rashi (21;21) explains that he gets killed because he will eventually commit murder. Therefore, the torah says, "Let him die as an innocent person and not die as a guilty person."

However, the Gemara (Rosh Hashana, 16b) states: "A person is judged according to his deeds at that time." Therefore, why… Continue

In this week's parsha we have the laws regarding marrying a female captive (21;11) and a wayward/rebellious son (21;18).
Rashi (21;11) states that one is permitted to marry a woman taken captive at war "for if the Holy One, Blessed is He would not make her permissible he would marry her in a forbidden manner." Meaning, he would be unable to…

Blowing the Shofar Awakens us!

We begin the month of Elul by blowing the Shofar. The Tur cites the Pirkei D’Rebbi Eliezer that states that when Moshe ascended the mountain to receive the second Luchos, a Shofar was sounded in the Jewish camp

announcing Moshe’s ascent. This Shofar blast signaled to the Jewish People that

they should not stray after idolatry…
