R' AVRAHAM CHAIM ANTIN ZT'L

The Torah recounts the Forty Two places where Bene Yisrael stopped en route between Egypt and the land of Israel (BaMidbar 33:1-49). Rashi ZT'L ZY’A explains that far from being a mere travelogue recalling places along the way this record underscores

G-D’s kindness in that Twenty Two of the journeys took place in the First and Fortieth years in the desert meaning during the remaining Thirty Eight years Ben Yisrael only had to travel Twenty times. Rashi further cites the Midrash Tanchumah… Continue

Making a difference

when tragedies happen, we are at a loss for words and have many questions. We wonder why it happened and what is the message.

We don't know what the reason is. But we can deffinately do something to turn things around and do something postive.  What we should do is each of us look at what we ourselves need to work on. Whether it is better Middos(character traits), ahavas yisrael, ethics, more kavana(feeling) in prayer, mitzvos etc. we can each make a difference. May we improve…

WHEN IT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE

How does one come to grips with a situation so far from sanity, so far from humanity? Where would one begin to comprehend events that have no rationale to sustain then? Especially if one has faith? Emunah tells the believer that everything is G-D’s creation. Emunah informs the believer that any circumstance or situation could only exist it G-D wanted it to. Further Emunah tells the believer that G-D only wants what is best for a person-whatever that individual needs to achieve personal… Continue

TOTAL CONNECTION

Balak the appointed Ruler of Moav perceived a threat from the advancing Bene Yisrael. After all, Sichon and Og who received tribute from their neighbors in exchange for providing protection to the surrounding kingdoms. Sichon and Og fell before Bene Yisrael, consequently Moav and Balak were scared.(see BaMidbar 22:2-4 and Rashi ZT’L ZY’A ad. loc.)

Balak through consultation with high ranking Midianite nobles that conventional warfare against Bene Yisrael would be at best futile.… Continue

DYING TO LlIVE

An application of faith is to consider the lesson presenting itself when events coincide. Recently three prominent Rabbanim, Roshei Yeshivoth passed away, Rabbi Koppelman of Lucerne, Rabbi Lefkowitz of Bene Brak and Rabbi Stein of Telshe Cleveland. Each taught generations of students carrying forward the tradition of Torah out of the holocaust’s ashes to nurture the remaining saplings and see them blossom in to maturity bearing fruit of their own. The rabbis’ lives were spent within the tents… Continue
