An American industrialist once came to visit the Chofetz Chaim of blessed memory. The Chofetz Chaim proudly gave the man a personal tour of his Yeshiva and asked him if he too would like to be a partner in the building of Torah. The man looked at the saintly Rabbi. He observed the young teenagers studying Torah in the cold underappointed room. He witnessed the sincerity and…

Shabbos: Ta’am HaChaim Parashas Terumah 5769
The month of Adar and Shabbos are a state of permanency in this temporal world
Introduction
We have now entered into the month of Adar and in less than two weeks we will celebrate the holiday of Purim. It is important to understand the connection between the month that we are in and the parashah that we are currently reading. The Chiddushei HaRim writes that the word Adar is similar to the word…

‘It was taught Rabbi Yossi the son of Rabbi Yehudah said an Ark of fire, a Table of Fire and a Menorah of fire came down from heaven which Moshe used as the prototype for their Earthly counterparts used in the Tabernacle . . .”(see Talmud, Menachot 29a). Rashi ZT’L ZY’A commenting on Shemot 25:40 explains that G-D presented a fire image of the menorah to enable Moshe to comprehend how to execute G-D’s intent in fashioning the Menorah.
Rashi ZT’L ZY’A commenting on Shemot 25:40…

Israeli authorities captured two religious Jews in Jerusalem this week accusing them of being ring-leaders in a high-profile drug smuggling case going on now in Japan. Unfortunately, when the Jerusalem arrests were reported online, secular news portals and even some religious ones revealed the identities of the two accused individuals. Naturally, reader comment pages were replete with angry attacks against them, based on nothing more than a police accusation. Indeed, when one of the two was…

When events coincide the connection between them piques one’s curiosity. This coming Shabbat the Sidra of Mishpatim is read, as is Parashat Shekalim and the Month of Adar is blessed. To leave these three events as stand alones would be wasting a D-vine message specifically sent for this particular Shabbat for this particular year.
While it would be presumptuous to declare emphatically what follows is the actual intended D-vine message. However my Rosh Yeshiva Rav Henoch Liebowitz…

Shabbos: Ta’am HaChaim Parashas Yisro 5769
Shabbos all the time
Introduction
In this week’s parasha the Torah records the Aseres HaDibros, the Ten Commandments. It is interesting to note that all of the Commandments contain an instruction that one must be constantly aware of. For example, the first Commandment instructs us to be constantly aware that HaShem is our G-d. The second Commandment instructs us that we are prohibited…

The fascinating question is when does a family become a nation? While sheer numbers may rise a family’s status to a clan or tribe it would seem though what characterizes a nation would be something more. It would seem from the Sidra what brings people together as a nation is indeed something that transcends common ancestry or history.
G-D declares in 19:6 that Bene Yisrael are to be “ . . . a nation of priests and a holy people>” a powerful statement and charge by A-mighty G-D to Bene…
