Shabbos: Ta’am HaChaim Parashas Bo 5769
Unity, Redemption and Shabbos
Introduction
In this week’s parasha the Torah records how the Egyptians were afflicted with the final three plagues and then HaShem redeemed the Jewish People from slavery. It is noteworthy that one aspect of the redemption is at times overlooked. It is said (Shemos 12:20-21) kol machmetzes lo socheilu bichol moshvosocheim tochlu matzos vayikra Moshe lichol…

The Pharoah Syndrome
By Rabbi Yaacov Haber
Regarding the case of the Aguna of Vilna I see you are leaning toward stringency. You feel the woman should not remarry.
The reason you are leaning this way is because you are not here. You do not hear the crying of this woman nor do you see her tears. If I would be where you are I too would be stringent, but I am here. I will rule leniently for her. May G-d save me from mistakes. (Rav Chaim of Volozhin in a letter to…

Rabbi Yisrael Zvi of Kasan ZT’L ZY’A would retell every year how the Sidra, BO was experienced in the Beit Medrash of Rav Moshe Lieb of Sassov ZT’L ZY’A. The Exodus recorded in Bo was so keenly felt that after the silent prayer was recited Friday night the Rebbe began to chant the Hallel (as is the Chassidic practice on the first night(s) of Passover). The series of praises were recited with deep emotion and intense joy. So caught up in the moment it was not until the worshippers filed out of…

Completely separate from the nations of the world
Introduction
In this week’s parasha the Torah records how after Pharaoh hardened his heart and refused to allow the Jewish People to leave Egypt, HaShem sent Moshe and Aharon to be the instruments that would afflict Pharaoh and the Egyptians with the ten plagues. It is noteworthy that each of the plagues had a specific lesson to teach…

The sidra reads so dramatically that it is hard to remember that one is reading the word of G-D and not an adventure novel. The conflict between Moshe Rabbainu A’H and Pharaoh is so pointed it would not be hard to imagine the tension in royal chambers. Even more intriguing is what went on between the royal advisers, sorcerers and his majesty.
A central theme in the sidra is the first seven of the ten . Yet, as an introduction to the plagues G-D commanded Moshe to have his brother…
