we left Egypt on Shabbos?

I heard in a shiur that we left Egypt on Shabbos, and some of the indications for this had something to do with carrying items or placing them on top of animals already in motion.

I would appreciate remembering more details of these items, particularly how an animal's being in motion would be significant.

Davening Exchange - inspired to daven for another Jew who davens for you? get matched online!

The other posting inspired about the power of davening for each other.

The Daven Exchange Project runs a web site that matches Jews with similar needs to daven for each other in this powerful fashion.

http://davenx.torah.org

The site was inspired by Rav Paysach Krohn's story on the Chofetz Chaim Heritage Foundation's Tisha B'Av video coupled with "voter exchange" web sites that were facilitating arrangements between supporters of Reb Lieberman and Ralph Nader in the US presidential election,… Continue

Shabbos for the goyim - how is it different than our Shabbos?

A person learning for conversion is prohibited from observing Shabbos like a Jew.
I've learned on this that Shabbos is our intimate time with Hashem, and that it is inappropriate for someone not part of that close relationship to be there at our intimate times, and perhaps more so for Yom Tov.

A righteous gentile friend asked me today about Shabbos, about when it became instituted.

I thought to myself that of course it was during the first days of creation, per kiddush.

And he mainly wanted t… Continue

Hoshanos on Chol HaMoed Succos - fixing up logic of Artscroll Succos Machzor to match Artscroll siddur

Given all the mathematical posts, I'd like to renew my interest in trying to figure out if there is a way to condense the logic behind which hoshana gets recited on which day of Succos based upon the 4 possible start days.

I am referencing 2 fantastic Artscroll Ashkenaz books (one siddur, one machzor) with English.
On page 726-727 of The Complete Artscroll Siddur is 4 charts. On page 732-737 of the Artscroll Succos Machzor are a sequence of paragraphs that include instructions that do not match… Continue

will the real Moshe Rabbeinu in time of Moshiach please stand up - in his home?

Reading in a new book by Rabbi Winston about Redemption I have learned that Moshiach ben Dovid will be a reincarnation of Moshe Rabbeinu.

I also have learned elsewhere that Moshe Rabbinu will be resurrected with Techias HaMeisim and would lead those who died in the 40 years in the desert to Eretz Yisroel.

Given that Moshiach ben Dovid would likely have an ancestral portion in the land of Yehuda, and that Moshe Rabbeinu was of course a Levite, I wonder if there is also a conflict?

In a case of… Continue

Chaim! It is me, Yocheved Hadassah Broscova! I thought my old page had been erased due to new site construction and the fact that I haven't been active for a while! Is all well with you? L'Shana Tova!

I actually thought you were someone else at first, but that's ok. I added your blog to my Daf Yomi site. If you would reciprocate, I'd appreciate it. Thank you,

Avrom
