"As a former teen BT (I'm now a 60-yr old Rav) it was very, very difficult. That was back before the days when it was popular to be a Baal Teshuvah. It is important to let your parents know that you still love and respect them, even though there…"

"Hi - Firstly, I suggest you talk to Aish Hatorah, NCSY or another Baal Teshuva group that works with these issues all the time. The most threatening issue most likely for your parents is that you are now doing something that makes them feel that…"

Welcome to Global Yeshiva!
We are more fortunate these days, with the internet and a virtual yeshiva group.
I grew up like you. Bless my parents, but they wouldn't let me light shabbos candles, make kidush etc and they wouldn't do it themselves either. Could be a blessing in disguise if it helps make you want it more. Maybe we should give thanks for that too?
I don't know what to do to stop making them feel bad that you are being religious. I guess you could tell them you love them, and tell them about all the good you've seen from them. Hopefully and they probably actually do feel good inside that you are religious, even though they may choose not to show it.
Have a wonderful day!
